United Kingdom | | Lounge

Threadneedles, an Autograph Collection hotel in London's financial district, serves afternoon tea in its Dome Lounge, a former Victorian banking hall featuring a stained-glass dome from 1856. The experience includes a collaboration with Caviar House & Prunier, offering unique items such as Balik salmon fillet, brioche rolls with prawns, and lemon tarts topped with caviar. Guests can pair their meal with artisan teas served in glass teapots or select champagne and cocktail upgrades.

First off, it's hard to tell if Threadneedles actually serves afternoon tea. There is a single mention of it on their restaurant page, but no menu, price, or time information. I wanted to meet someone near Liverpool St so called and asked to book - the person had to check if they even offered afternoon tea.

On arrival, the server first sat us in the dining area at a 'normal' table, when I mentioned it was supposed to be in the nice lounge he moved us there. Service throughout was OK, both tea and food came quickly, but I don't recall them asking to refill our tea.

I would call the food fine, the highlight was the raisin scones which had a nice crunch to them, but oddly they didn't offer a plain version. Sandwiches were not memorable, sweets were bite-site and fine. Nothing was bad, all reasonable for more of a work meeting afternoon tea - which is what I was after.
